Complete Description
PURPOSE: Perform duties required to operate a PBX switchboard and communications equipment and alarms. Duties include providing general information to many internal and external contacts. ACCOUNTABILITIES AND JOB ACTIVITIES: Customer Relations: Answers, transfers and directs incoming calls using a console, will have frequent telephone contact with the public in disposing of incoming and outgoing calls placed through the switchboard and in answering questions regarding personnel and departments Gives routine, non-interpretive information on request Receives and makes emergency phone calls Customer Focus: Is dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers; gets firsthand customer information and uses it for improvements in services; acts with the customer in mind Peer Relationships: Can quickly find common ground and solve problems for the good of all; works cooperatively, effectively and respectfully with others; identifies problems and issues that need to be addressed with management to promote a healthy and productive work environment Composure: Is cool under pressure, does not become cynical, moody, or hostile when times are difficult Listening: Practices attentive and active listening; has the patience to hear people out Operates the institutional paging system, alarms and codes May perform other duties as assigned Performs simple clerical and database tasks Works the Physician Answering Service Queue (as assigned) Works with the Physician Referral Queue (as assigned) Issue Management & Support: Pagers: Working with customers in troubleshooting issues and/or replacing pagers Paging System: calling the paging system vendor (USA Mobility) for issue management Phone equipment in patient rooms, replacement and repairs as requested by customers Follows On-Call Pager Schedule SKILLS / KNOWLEDGE: Basic reading, writing, and arithmetic skills required. This is normally acquired through a high school diploma or equivalent Exhibit good judgment and take reasonable action to accomplish objectives with minimal direct supervision Work well under pressure; be a calming influence on staff and users during critical/time-sensitive situations Strong communication skills. Provide information to supervisors, co-workers and subordinates by telephone, in written form, e-mail or in person. A desire to help others Results focused with excellent communication skills Call Center/fast paced environment experience Ability to consult and influence customers, by being confident and professional Analytical and problem solving skills Moderate PC skills with the ability to navigate in a Windows environment (ie...
