PURPOSE:
The Nursing Director is responsible for the planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating the delivery of patient care and nursing practice for Emergency Services
ACCOUNTABILITIES AND JOB ACTIVITIES:
Oversees planning and operations for Emergency Services and is responsible for Service, Quality, Growth and Financial outcomes
Provides direct coaching and leadership to the nursing managers for assigned teams and assists those leaders in developing and meeting department specific goals and targets
Participates in the development and implementation of the Strategic Plan for nursing
Participates in developing and facilitating department wide policies and procedures and ensures consistent application of practice according to those policies
In collaboration with the Chief Nursing Officer, oversees the implementation of an effective quality/performance improvement plan for nursing and patient care
Promotes ongoing performance improvement across all pillars for the department of nursing and assigned teams. Must be familiar with national ED benchmarks
Promotes quality patient care through participation in hospital committees and planning teams
Promotes quality patient care by facilitating a consistent nursing practice philosophy for patients across continuums - core measures / QI
Promotes shared decision making processes to ensure autonomy and professional accountability across nursing
Plans for and evaluates new developments in research, education, and evidence based practice to ensure optimal patient care
Oversees actions to meet JCAHO standards and other regulatory agency requirements for nursing and assigned teams
Assures effective utilization of patient care and staffing plans to insure optimal care and cost effectiveness
Facilitates an environment of interdependence, open communication, collaboration, and empowerment to ensure employee, physician, and customer satisfaction
Facilitates hiring, orienting, supervising, and evaluating key nursing personnel
Actively participates in the strategic plan in order to develop key goals and targets for involved teams
Supports assigned leaders in the development of capital and operational budgets and monitors ongoing performance to ensure effective fiscal management
Engages in networking opportunities within professional organizations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Previous Director level experience in Emergency medicine
Working knowledge of JCAHO standards
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Masters Degree required
5 years experience in nursing leadership with advancement opportunities
CERTIFICATIONS:
Current RN license in the State of Illinois
Maintains current CPR
CEN (Certification in Emergency Nursing)
